adiZero Crazy Light Sharp Blue/White colorways
Last May 29, 2011, all basketball aficionados in the country was gathered at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center, Ateneo De Manila University for a special event from my sports enthusiasts (like me) and professionals' favorite, adidas as they are launching a new product with a promise of a new light! It has a quite raining that day but this does not stop passionate players to go and see what's in store for them.
Basketball players, enthusiasts and members of the media who were invited show off their adiZero Crazy Light shoes
Professional basketball players like JC Intal, Wesley Gonzales, Larry Fonacier, Jeff Chua, Enrico Villanueva, Jerwin Gaco, Marc Isip, Ryan Arana, Jervy Cruz, Jonas Villanueva are some players to name a few. Jai Reyes was also there to host the event. There are also collegiate basketball players like Jeric Fortuna, Jeric Teng and Luigi Dela Paz who attended this event. There are also college players from other universities who attended and was very fortunate to try out the best shoe in the market...the new adiZero Crazy Light.
adiZero Crazy Light "Derrick Rose" edition
adiZero Crazy Light, which is now the lightest shoe in basketball. The newest shoe from adidas only registered at 9.8 ounces, which sets a new standard for basketball footwear. The weight of adiZero Crazy Light is 15 percent lighter than the nearest competitor and you can imagine it is even lighter than the weight of the personal soda that you drink at 12oz.  Due to its light weight, the adiZero Crazy Light is made to help improve performance on the court by making players move faster, that could be translated to more fastbreak, offensive plays and even air time to make those breath-taking slam dunks.  The adiZero Crazy Light basketball shoe now gives adidas the lightest footwear in three sports including football (adiZero 5-Star cleat) and soccer (F50 adiZero cleat). See the document on this link to see the fact sheet of adiZero Crazy Light.
See the statement from basketball star endorser Derrick Rose below and his official ad:
“Lighter footwear makes you faster and speed dominates on the basketball court,” said Derrick Rose, two-time NBA All-Star of the top-seeded Chicago Bulls. “The adiZero Crazy Light is the lightest basketball shoe I’ve ever worn and it will no doubt make me faster on the court for our playoff run.”

“No other basketball shoe compares to the new adiZero Crazylight and it’s a shoe that will revolutionize the game,” said Lawrence Norman, adidas Vice President of Global Basketball. “The ultra lightweight design is built for players who want to be faster, jump higher and perform better on the court. From the NBA’s best to gamers across the world, players are asking for light footwear to help them become one step quicker - and the adiZero Crazy Light delivers this in a way like no shoe in history.”

It took a lot of effort and two years from the adidas Innovation Team (aIT) and adidas Basketball Design to create the adiZero Crazy Light. They developed the show from the canvas of a bare foot to really ensure that every part of the shoe will serve a vital performance function. Net, only the lightweight, highly flexible and durable materials were selected to create the lightest shoe in basketball. You can just imagine the thing that Mark Wahlberg's team did in the movie "The Italian Job" just to make the mini-cooper super light, it is almost the same thing. Here's a statement from Griff Wilson of adidas Innovation Team and images/sketches of the shoe during planning:
“We wanted to build the ultimate shoe for the ultimate basketball player, and research has clearly shown that a lighter shoe will provide better performance,” said Griff Wilson, senior developer of the adidas Innovation Team.  “The key is to provide the support and cushioning of a traditional basketball shoe in a super lightweight construction.  The Crazy Light, the culmination of two years of design, research, and testing, is the lightest shoe in the market by nearly two ounces and will give basketball players an advantage over the competition.”
Here are some of the revolutionary features that provides edge over adiZero Crazy Light:
The adiZero Crazy Light features a revolutionary new SPRINTWEB exoskeleton upper less than 1mm thick and is seamlessly bonded to a nylon textile base to significantly reduce weight and provide increased support and strength.  The web layout of the materials provides vertical and horizontal strength to give players optimum support for any cutting motion.

The SPRINTFRAME external heel counter and TORSION SYSTEM are bonded together to allow maximum weight reduction, energy return and motion control.  Each lace eyelet is load bearing and has a corresponding web spar to support players during hard cuts. The upper is made with translucent nylon to further decrease weight and give players nearly 360 degrees of ventilated comfort.

The adiZero Crazy Light traction system has varied engineered thickness to ensure maximum grip in high wear perimeter zones, and less thickness and weight in low perimeter zones like the midfoot. It also features longitudinal grooves in the heel and forefoot to provide support during extreme forefoot cuts.
Players had a great time playing with their super/ultra light shoes
During the event, the adiZero Crazy Light was put into a big test as the players and guests were asked to used their new shoes for a real game. The participants were grouped into four to play a knock-out system. One could really see the intensity among players as they play the game with their new shoes. As described by the players, they can really feel that their performance improved with the help of this shoe as they become more agile and fast to make those plays and hoops. This can be proven with a lot of fast break shots delivered by all of the teams during the game done easily by the players. At the end, it was Team 4 who emerged as the Champion. The captain of Team 4 even said that wearing adiZero Crazy Light is like wearing no basketball shoes at all. Well, that truly proves that it is very light...ever lighter than AIR! See more pics during the event below:

Verdict: RECOMMENDED!
I was able to try the shoes myself and I can say that it is really great. First, I was already blown away by the design of the shoes. I have the sharp blue/white variation of the shoe and it really looks good especially for today's generation. It is a real-eye catcher for anyone to see. The other varieties, especially the black/red/white is also one of my personal favorite, especially it is being endorsed by the famous basketball superstar, Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls. The shoe is also stylish that you can even ear it off-court and still look great. Mr. Xavier Media, adidas Marketing Manager, wear this during the launch paired with jeans and it looked really great!

Xavier's shirt really said it all - adidas is lighter than AIR!
More than the fashion aspect of the shoe, I think the functionality and features of the shoe really had my vote for this shoe. I personally do not like wearing basketball shoes as it usually heavy, thus having a "super" light alternative is really a great step ahead. I can attest that it is really very light weight as you wear it.The Sprintweb technology also provides breathability as you play an intense basketball game. If you know me personally, you will know that I usually get injured because of a twisted ankle. I am amazed that this shoe can even prevent me from having this injury because of its midsole layout and eyestay dictates where the shoe should bend. The shoe also have more grooves for more surface area contact and the sprint web lines bare load forces during cross over moves. The Sprintframe also have a heel counter that provides heel stability, preventing heel inversion or eversion. It is really a well-crafted basketball shoes from adidas that one shouldn't miss.

The adizero Crazy Light is available since last June 3, 2011 in three colorways for P6,995 including sharp blue/white, black/red/white, grey/white/neon green and red/white.
