Blogapalooza 2013 logo from When in Manila

One of my most memorable blogging event that I attended was the Blogapalooza years back. It was one of the events wherein a lot of bloggers like me was able to interact and find the businesses that would like to seek the help of bloggers to promote their products and at the same time also mingle and meet new bloggers during the event. I was so happy that they developed again the Blogapalooza event this year and was fortunate to be part again of this year's list.

When I arrived at the event, I was amazed as how they were able to put up the event. Fortunately, we have a lot of space this year for the different companies to set-up their booth for bloggers to visit. I was able to take a look at the different booths and what they can offer and how can us bloggers can help them.

When I arrived, the program is already starting at the main stage. There are stand up comedians who performed and the event was filled with laughter with their humor. There's also from Writer's Block who shared her experience and tips as a online publisher and how she is now earning. This gave a spark of inspiration especially to those who wanted to pursue a full time career online. She even left us with a nice quote "An idea is just a dream until you write it down, then it is a GOAL"

My favorite part of the talk was courtesy of Jason Cruz. He is a great speaker indeed and for new bloggers his talk would really be helpful. He gave his take on what are the things we should do to be successful in blogging and how we can "associate with a brand". Here are some of his tips for us; 1. Have a good company culture, 2. Be relevant on a day to day basis, 3. Expectation from blogger should be realistic. I really liked his talk as it really inspired me to be a better blogger and build a relationship with a business starting that day. :)

After Jason, the stage ignited further as Karen Bordador shared pieces of advice as well from her experience on online publishing. I was actually surprised that her bubbly attitude during the talk made the discussion light and engaging (On top that she is very nice to look at stage). Her talk was followed by the very famous DJs of Boys Night Out. They shared their new "Podcast" program and how social media emerged through these past few years.

After the talks from the different resource speakers, the different companies also were given a chance to showcase their company or their products. Staff from Chooks-To-Go, Mind Museum, Grab Taxi, PLDT Home, Smart, Wheatgrass, Hungry Juan, Gurkka.com, ZipMatch, Enjoy Philippines to name some.

At the middle of the show, audience were suddenly interrupted as some "groups" tried to hack the event. Well, good thing it is just a planned performance that turned into a mob dance. Really cool stuff.

During the event, the organizers also organized a donation drive for the victims of the recent Typhoon Haiyan that hit the country. They set-up some "Pink Piggy Banks" at the venue to encourage bloggers like me to share their small fortune to our brothers to help. The organizes also matches the donation of the bloggers that end up amounting to around 70 thousand pesos worth of donation which was then hand over to a representative from World Vision, who also shared her experience as she was stranded in Tacloban during that time. Here is the video of her narrating her experience during that time:

One of the most anticipated film of the year is upcoming. I've been looking forward to see this movie to see how the odds will be in favor for Katniss this time around. Imagine, what if Katniss will have Fibr connection, how can she utilize it to her advantage?

How would the odds be in your favor if you had a Fibr connection?

If I or Katniss will have Fibr connection, we will definitely have the odds on our favor for the 75th Hunger Games. It is because "Fibr", Home’s most powerful broadband, allows you to seamlessly and simultaneously experience the following:

  • Browsing of multiple websites - If you will have this power, it will be very helpful in order to scout what other districts are doing to prepare and who are their top players who will compete. Since there are 12 districts and each will have 2 representatives, it will be easy to have 23 open tabs/browsers to enable this search simultaneously. While doing so, he can search for ways to improve your strength with readily available course material or videos to further prepare. One can view videos on sites such as Youtube to view some instructional videos to help prepare for the competition. I can be able to search with fashion trend that will also make the crowd cheer for me more during the presentation of the tributes. Katniss can also browse through her favorite social networking sites or create blog to better campaign for her and be able to get the sponsors to help her during the competition on itself. Now she will not just be known as the girl on fire but can be the "girl on Fibr"
  • Stream hundreds blockbuster movies on-demand from Clickplay - Since this time Katniss will be battle with experienced players, she can watch possibly the movies archive from Clickplay on her competitors and how they were able to win last time, their strengths and their weaknesses during their own year of competition. Having these additional information will really put more odds on her favor.
  • Watch Cignal Digital TV Channels - She can watch through Cignal Digital TV channels to keep her up to date on the news as per last movie there are a lot of sudden changes on rules or to know if there are riots happening on other districts.
You don't need to be a tribute to get this fastest broadband connection because it is available now in over 800 fiber-powered villages nationwide. You can visit www.pldthome.com or call 101-FIBR (3427) for more details. Here's a video to further explain the power of Fibr.

Most of the time a lot of us skip breakfast as we hurry up on our to work. Same scenario is being experienced with lunch time as we normally have the ordinary fast food meals so we can get back on our work and finish everything by 1pm. BYO Cup Day Philippines taken during the launch
Brainfreeze
This is the term we grew up with whenever I see 7-11 stores. A visit in 7-11 will not be complete without having their famous frozen beverage brand called Slurpee. I can still remember how I will fill up my cup and sometimes combine flavors to make that perfect concoction. I'm like an Einstein mixing the right formula to make the best "brain freeze" experience.

Your brain freeze experience will be a lot better as 7-Eleven will bringing in something what they did in Australia. They did something ingeniously fun and wacky that sent people rushing to the convenience store chain with their teapots, canisters and even wheelbarrow, to be filled with Slurpee... the Slurpee Bring Your Own Cup Day.
Famous bloggers present during BYO Cup Day Philippines launch

When I was invited for the launch, I initially thought that 7-Eleven will just be coming out to be more environmentally friendly but already remembered that they are using paper cups. I was surprised that they are doing this outrageous promotion. During the launch, famous bloggers attended the event and brought their most out-of-the-box container to fill up with the world famous Slurpee. Bloggers even joined contest to be the first to finish up a cup of Slurpee.
BYO Cup Day Philippines Mechanics
How does it work?
Customers are encouraged to bring the craziest cups they can think of. Anything that can be filled is fair game provided that it follows the rules. As long as the "cup" in question is hygienic, watertight, fixed in shape and size and able to fit the "MaCUPangyarihang Bilog" (very witty name indeed), customers can fill to the brim with Slurpee. Be warned, however: Brainfreeze may occur.
BAng MaCUPangyarihang Bilog taken during the launch

When it will happen? How much is it?
The Philippines' first ever Slurpee Bring Your Own Cup day happens on November 7, 2013. For only Php 29 (yes, no typo there it is really that cheap), anyone can use the craziest "cups" they can get their hands on.
Here are some samples that you can bring for the BYO Cup Day Philippines
Wait there's more...
On Slurpee BYO Cup Day customers who participate can upload their photos with their craziest cups in the online contest Photos can be posted on 7-Eleven's social media pages on Facebook and Instagram for a chance to win cash prizes. Be sure to use the hashtag #BYOCupDay to keep tabs of the Slurpee madness this coming November 7.

Dear Santa (a.k.a AirAsia Zest),

I think I have been nice this year that's why I'm writing you a letter in the hope that you can read this and grant my wish list this year. As you may have known, I'm not a small kid anymore so my wish list is not something your elves can create such as toys or candies. Instead, since I'm a big boy now I have a "Destination" Wish List which hopefully you can grant. Here's my list:

Cebu
I wanted to visit this place as you might have heard some of fellow Juan have been hit by an earthquake earlier this week. I wanted to fly so I can also reach out and be of help on the outreach drive happening on this location. I want to give back the kindness/blessings showered to me this year.
I will not hypocrite, aside from helping, I also want to visit the majestic places that is within this province. I want to visit the Magellan's cross and at the same time the Sto. Nino at their Basilica. I heard there are also great beaches that I can explore on this region so it will really be great to visit those places.
As a food lover, who wouldn't want to take a piece of that crunchy lechon skin that you can hear cracking at almost every corner of this province match that with a dessert of either crunchy Otap (think of it like a crunchier version of the latest trending food Cronuts) or the world's famous dried mangoes.

Puerto Princesa
I want to visit this place as I've never been here. :( I really hope to be here as I heard its great plus as a Filipino and never to visit the another New Wonder of World Underground River is such a shame. I want to relax on the powder-like beach sand that they have.

Davao
I wanted to go here as I heard from my mother that we do have long-lost relatives on this province. I visited it once but only for a short period of time so not enough to really pay a visit to my relatives. Hopefully this time around I can be able to roam the city and meet them.
Last time I was here I also failed to see the Philippine Eagle and also climb the majestic Mount Apo. I want to take pictures of these 2 nature's gift to Davaoeneos and have a picture with and on it.

Incheon, South Korea
I was able to visit this place during my Silver Birthday celebration and it was so nice. I really love the place and would like to further check other destinations that I failed to visit when I was there.
I think this time I will go to visit their Lotte World theme park as an amusement park-lover myself. If you knew me well, you will know that even I'm a big kid already I always ensure that I visit an amusement park during my birthday. I tried Everland theme park last time I was there so might good to visit the Lotte World this time. I want also to go to their Olympic Stadium as an athletic person myself as well. I would also love to visit Nami Island again and this time ride a bike around the island.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Last time I was here with my family, we were only at this place for 16 hours. We had to squeeze in out time to be able to have picture at Petronas, visit their Chinatown and then off to the airport. :(
This time around, I wanted to visit KL and explore it more. I failed to get on top of Petronas tower last time so hopefully I can now line up early and be able to see the view of KL while on top of Petronas.
I heard that there's a new amusement park (as I've mentioned I love visiting amusement park) called Legoland in KL. I would really love to visit this place as I've seen it only on TV or pictures. I also have childhood memories as I remember you gave me a kid Santa a Lego as a toy since I've been nice that year (and even the years after it).

As much as you want to offer your sleigh to grant my wish, I am deeply concerned with Rudolph and the reindeer's health and safety. On top of that, I know there are other kids that will be waiting on their fireplace so I don't want to lose your focus on those other "good" kids that they will not get their presents because of me. Don't worry you can still grant my wish as AirAsia, the world’s 5-time best low cost airline according to Skytrax has synergized forces with Zest Air.

Yes, you read it right that AirAsia and Zest Air partnered together and they have a new brand name with this collaboration...AirAsia Zest! If you are worried you don't have budget to give me my wish list, that is not a problem as they may now take me to my destination at affordable prices. Now, I can be able to "Travel in the Philippines" or better yet "Travel in Asia with AirAsia".

No need to worry that I have to travel all the way to Clark to catch flights with Air Asia because "AirAsia Zest flies from Manila". You and Mrs. Claus don't need to be trapped in North Pole because you can travel from Manila to exciting destination in the Philippines like "Cebu, Davao, Kalibo (Boracay), Puerto Princesa, Tagbilaran, Cagayan De Oro" where you can really feel It's more Fun in the Philippines. If that is not enough, you can also visit some of PH's Asian neighbors such as "Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Shanghai, Incheon". All of these flights are accessible on their "AirAsia Zest, NAIA Terminal 4" terminal.
New AirAsia Zest logo
Click the link to visit their site

I really do cross my fingers you can grant my wish. I'll be leaving my Christmas socks and hope one day when I wake up it will be filled by an AirAsia Zest tickets to the destination wish list of my choice.

Your nice kid,

kahitanoito

Why would I swap for a Foton? WHY NOT!

Yes, you read it right. My answer is 2 words WHY NOT. Well, it does not end up there. It does have a deeper meaning. Let me show you some reasons why I would dare to swap my old car and Foton (put-on) my money on this car.

W - Wide space
MPX ensures enough space and seats
Especially for us Filipinos, we love to bring our friends and family together on our car and even at that small time frame travelling we make quality time with them. With Foton, it would be now possible for everyone to have this luxury as this car maker especializes in creating cars with huge sizes. Now, it wouldn't be a problem anymore for an ordinary Juan to fit his family on a sedan if they Foton. Since it is large enough, Filipinos can also be environmetally friendly with this car as one can implement car pooling given the huge space it can accommodate. For most Filipinos, who also use their vehicle to generate income, Foton will also be a big plus with its size comes additional passenger it can bring to every route.
H - Heavy-Duty
Thunder showing heavy-duty looks
In buying car, I invest a lot of my hard-earned saving to purchase one. In that sense, it will be important that investment like cars should be something that will last over time. It will be a sad to see that what you invested will just be put into waste if the car will usually break down or will easily not be of usage with its useful life. It will really be important to get a car that is heavy-duty.
Y - Yield Extra Income
LCV showing enough seats if you want to use it as UV Express business/school service
Foton can now claim the line "Di lang pampamilya, pang-negosyo pa". With the line of vehicles from Foton, if I would like to get a car that will also be used for business, then it will not be a problem. It's Passenger Vehicle line will have an array of variants that can fit the need whatever extra business you are thinking to be an additional usage for your car. The Thunder and Blizzard variant has a great pick-up design while their MP-X and View variants will be very usable for UV Express type of service or Bus Service. Juan like me should not be practical investment nowadays and should maximize the value of my investment. Foton will really be a good fit for this.
N - Nimble
Blizzard staying true to its name
Cars are invented so that one can travel from place to place. Why would you settle for a car that has limited capacity or wouldn't get you up to speed. Good thing as I look on the specs of Foton it seems that I will not have this problem. With it's 2.8L CRDi engine, for sure my car will be able to leverage on our Skyway. It is even better than my old car right now which is running just on a 2.0L engine. I'm now excited to test drive this car and see how I can feel the blazing speed that even Usain Bolt will be amazed.
- Outstanding (Not only in Cost but Quality as well)
MPX interior is really superb and good
Over-all. I can summarize that Foton is good company maker I can choose to replace my old car. Sometimes, we are just 'hyped' with brand names and that goes even with cars. I'm actually amazed with Foton to be another brand in the market which made me think to be a good choice to replace my old car, which is now causing me just additional expenses and drinking up gasoline with every ride. Aside from that, it also has the exterior and interior features that is present with the leading car makers in the market such as electronic mirrors, automatic dimming rear views, reverse sensor, remote control power windows, leather seats radio and CD player, Audio Input (good for connecting my iPod). You can even get Foton Smart Tracker or Smart Navi to make it really superb. On top of that, safety is also not left behind with this car, you can feel that you are really safe with its 3-point  seatbelts, dual airbags system and drum/disc brakes to name a few. If that does not convince you, you will also be impressed with how the car looks like. Who would think it is priced competitively.
Foton Smart Solutions to even make your car digitally advanced

T - Trade-ins accepted!
Trade-ins accepted

What is even good, I don't have to worry find a buyer for my old car. It is very convenient that Foton can accept trade in. Just imagine how hassle free it will be for me and other car owners to purchase a car without worrying how to dispose your old one. One should definitely take advantage of this offer during their Big show.

If I still don't convince you yet, then better Join Foton’s Big Show 2013′s Grand Launch at the World Trade Center on October 25 and witness the launching of the new Foton View Traveller, and also groove with the FOTON Dancing Wheel Loader, which is the first in the Philippines. I know I was able to convince you already. Here's a simple video I created to convince you more... Share this post with you family and friends (they can even register to test drive here  http://bit.ly/FotonContest) so they can also be convinced "Why Not" get a FOTON today.

Summer season might be too far yet but that does not stop one to be fit and fab and have that beach body you always wanted soon. Actually, November will be the "fitness month" with the biggest fitness event happening during this month with the Subic Fitness Festival.

All fitness enthusiasts and who-would-like-to-be will be heading towards Subic Free Port Zone - Harbor Point, Camayan Beach and Ocean Adventure on November 15, 16, and 17 to attend this event. This promises to be a  grand festival that aims to promote a holistic approach to fitness amongst Filipinos, F&F Events, alongside Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), declares that fitness in body, mind and spirit is definitely for everyone!
FTX Makati - Venue of the first 3 classes of SFF
FTX facilities
The event had its kick-off at the FTX gym along Tordesillas St., Makati, last September 6, 7, and 8, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the series of events will feature all the fitness disciplines headed to the main gathering.  This is surely the chance for every Juan, Maria, Boyet and Nene, to have a taste of the Subicfitfest experience. Bloggers like me were very fortunate to be invited to try these events.
Our coach explaining all about Circuit Warz
The first event that we were able to experience was Circuit Warz. 2008 Mr. Philippines title holder Reijo Maranan del Prado, challenged us to break records through functional body weight and resistance training with Circuit Warz, last Friday, September 6, 2013. Learn the preparations involved to qualify in the Gladiator Circuit Battle, Extreme Enduro-Challenge, Strong Man Competition and Tug-of-War. The free circuit training is open to individuals and circuit teams alike, featuring speed-repetition, speed-endurance and power-weight exercises.
Blogger Omar had the first blood to try the Gladiator's Battle
Coach showing us one of the activity for Strongman Invasion
The Circuit Warz was really interesting and would really push even the gym buff to the limits. Our instructor was just explaining the first set of exercise and it was already challenging. Fellow bloggers Omar and Marco was able to try the Gladiator's Battle set and just at the Gladiator combo ( combination of 5 push-ups, 10 mountain climbers and 1 pike jump in 10 reps) had their energy exhausted. I was able to try the Battling Rope Wave during the event. I  though it was easy but hell no it was far from a simple swing of rope. One can really feel the increase in temperature on your shoulders when you do it and I only lasted for 37 seconds. Over-all it was really challenging and will really push you to the extreme.
Bloggers getting ready to dance

The following day ( Saturday, September 7, 2013) we dance the work-week stress away  with Urban Street Dance. Shed starched shirts for basic tees and move to your favorite groove for a fun-filled, high-energy, cardiovascular work-out! We were able to learn about the basic of dancing and even had fun dancing the newest trend on dancing. The bloggers in attendance even had a face-off battle where are young and kind instructors from group of Plays On patiently trained us on "techno" and swag dance moves. Here's some snippets of our dance:

Sunday was a treat for the spirit as International Meta-coach, Imee Navarro, taught us how to unleash our greatest potentials.  On September 8, 2013,  we learned to express our power with neuro-linguistic programming, self-contemplation, and meditation techniques.  We moved within our mind and experience results physically and mentally, through the guidance of EQ Academy with Soul Fitness. I personally thought it will be an easy session but I was wrong and it was really a lot of self realization. After the session, you may have seen on my FB wall that I even posted my commitment after the meta-coaching exercise. It was really an enlightening experience to cap our weekend and also to start our week.
Meta-coaching with Ms. Imee
I personally feel energized and not exhausted after my first week of experience on these events. Really had a great time with all these activities. I'm so much excited with what's upcoming this week.

*Image courtesy of Starbucks Philippines Facebook page

You may not have heard it yet but there will be a Buy One Get One Frappuccino drinks today at Starbucks for their new frappuccinos. They are offering it only today, July 16, 2013, from 2pm - 5pm. Please take note though that the promo is only for the Dark Moccha White Chocolate Pudding and Green Team White Chocolate Pudding. What's good with this offer is you don't need to print out any voucher or coupon and you can just walk-in at their store to get this deal!

If you're wondering if it their new variant is good. Well, I have been waiting for this flavor to arrive in the Philippines. I first tasted it when I was Japan last year and my favorite is the Dark Moccha White Chocolate Pudding especially for my moccha addict taste buds. What I like about their White Pudding Frap is that it adds a different texture from your usual frap experience. I believe a lot of Filipinos will love it especially it is really a good pair with the classic Starbucks Frap. If you haven't tried it yet, then this is a better timing to enjoy it twice the fun. You can even try both drinks given their promo later.

If you're wondering the price of these White Choco Pudding Frappuccinos, you can avail the Starbucks Dark Mocha White Chocolate Pudding Frappuccino  Php 190 (Tall), Php 200 (Grande) and Php 210 (Venti). Their Starbucks Green Tea White Chocolate Pudding Frappuccino is available at 10 pesos less with their previous variant with a prices of Php 180 (Tall), Php 190 (Grande) and Php 200 (Venti).

Bring your friend and experience this promo later. See you at the queue!

I am a great follower of the US version of the show and really enjoyed the different challenges on all the seasons of the show. I was really thrilled when I first saw in AXN that they will be having a franchise of the show in Asia with Tony Fernandes as the counterpart of Donald Trump.

If you're wondering, I wanted to apply for the show. I already downloaded all the forms but forgot to work on it given you need to work on 10-page long form. Seeing the selected contestants, I then realized I might not be near their expertise. Last week, we were very fortunate to be invited to meet the Filipino contestants for the Asia version of the Apprentice franchise...Celina and Jon!
Celina and Jon during the event.

The 1st Apprentice Asia Winner is from the Philippines?

I know you been wanting to know if either Celina or Jon won the competition. Unfortunately, they cannot disclose it just like with Amazing Race Asia event before. During the event though, we have a private viewing of the first episode of the show. I was able to watch this pilot episode and I'm very thrilled seeing all the contestants of the show even before the event. The first episode of Apprentice is really something to watch out as you can see already the dynamics of the contestants within the team and the potential conflict. I'm for Team Mavericks but unfortunately they loss the first challenge. :(

After the private viewing, we were able to know further the person behind the contestants we can see in the show with Celina and Jon. Celina Le Neinder, at first, I thought was not a Filipina because she looks like a foreigner like Alex. However, seeing her in person really made me see the Filipina in her. This 29 year old Davaoena is really a lovely lady but you can sense from her aura a very competitive person. Jonathan, on the other end, worked as a Marketing Manager from a multi-national company. Even without seeing  him, I have seen him on the first episode to be really a very competitive person and someone who can defend himself to Mr. Fernandes during the heated board room debates on who to be fired.

During our Q&A sessions with Celina and Jon, we were able to know more about their experience and their preparations. I was amazed to hear their journey to be part of the show and how they were able to beat more than 3000 applicants around Asia. I was able to ask personally about their strategy going to the show. Both Celina and Jon was able to share that they don't have a specific strategy going to the show. What amazes me though was how they informed us that they joined the show not for their own pride but also to represent our country. Jon and Celina told us that unlike their other competitors, they ensured that Filipinos can be proud of them with joining the show. Jon even shared that he even wore a Philippine flag pin during the middle episodes to show how proud he is as a Filipino. He even told us that this helped him as his lucky charm especially if he is having difficult discussion defending himself against Mr. Fernandes. They were able to show how Mr. Tony Fernandes is also a great boss and would really provide "constructive" criticisms because he really cared the interest of his employees.

We really had a fun night chatting with Celina and Jon during the event. It really made me appreciate the show more and will definitely follow all the episodes of the show. If you want to see the exciting episodes, you can watch it every Wednesday, 9pm, at AXN Asia Cable Channel. When you watch the show, please don't forget to use hashtag #AACelina #AAJon #TeamPH and #TheApprenticeAsia . Please also vote them on the AXN Asia website at http://www.axn-asia.com/programs/apprentice-asia/AAindex. Btw, Thanks to Papa John's Philippines for hosting the event.
